KENYA CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP IN AMERICA

SEPTEMBER 8, 2005

Dear brethren,

Bwana Asifiwe.

Since the  hurricane Katrina disaster struck the Gulf Coast area our fellowship has been inquiring as to whether there were any Kenyan people affected. Since then we have received word that indeed there were a number of Kenyans that were displaced from their homes in New Orleans, Louisiana. Our brother, Dr. Fulbert Namwamba, who teaches at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, received these individuals and families in his home immediately following the hurricane. At one time he had about 9 Kenyans staying in his house. We thank God for our brother's generosity. He has been in the process of getting them help in relocating to different cities. Of the 9 people, 6 people have relocated to Texas.

Dr. Fulbert Namwamba as well many concerned Kenyans have requested KCFA to coordinate efforts to help these families. The KCFA National Executive Board has discussed this need, and we felt that we needed to establish a hurricane relief fund through which the Kenyan Christian community can channel their support to assist our brethren that are so deeply affected by this crisis.

We plan to assist these individuals and families in two ways. First, because we have a network of chapters in different cities & states, we will connect individuals with our local chapters in those cities where they wish to relocate. Second, we are coordinating fund raising efforts on behalf of the Kenyan Community to assist those affected financially.  A complete list of Kenyans that were displaced from New Orleans because of Hurricane Katrina is being compiled, and through this hurricane relief account, financial help will be channeled directly to them.

Please give a special donation today towards this urgent need. You can deposit your check at any branch of SunTrust Bank in the country using this account number. Make sure you send a copy of deposit slip to the national treasurer for records. A receipt will be mailed out to be used for tax filing purposes. We will maintain a full accountability and records. All the money and donations given towards this need will go directly to the individuals and families affected.

We were asked to raise money to help 50 individuals with variety of needs. Those affected includes some students, some families, and children. A few of these people (3) are still staying with Dr. Namwamba. The others have relocated or have expressed an interest to relocate to Atlanta, Baltimore, Dallas, and Houston and other cities. We are working with our chapters in these cities to help them. We will try our best to connect these individuals as they arrive in different cities with government agencies and private organizations that are helping hurricane victims like FEMA and Red Cross, as well as American and Kenyan churches. But as Kenyan believers we need to help them.

Please talk to friends in your area and encourage them to give towards this vital cause. We also encourage you to send whatever financial help you can towards this need today. This is what the kingdom of God and the Christian family is about. Remember the words of our Lord Jesus Christ when He said " ... and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward. And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward ( Mathew 10:41-42).

If any of you need more information about this please feel free to call me at 229-382-4950, Lucas Kimani at 410-581-1505, or Erastus Njenga at 770-981-8335, and Richard Mungai at 678-574-6930.

God bless you.
